More LT4 Hot Cam Questions

I've been interested in the LT4 Hot Cam for quite some time now, but I am running low on cash and wondering if this will work. I have a stock 89 350 TPI motor, but plan on putting in a few various mods including headers and a 3" exhaust system. Can I use the LT4 Hot Cam with the stock heads (with the exception of the rockers, springs, retainers, and springs? If not, will the cam be ok with stock ported heads? Also, would it be ok to use the stock manifold base? Or could I/should I get that ported as well? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I'm running a Comp 218/224, .495/.503 lift w/1.5's. It's very similar to the Hot cam. I'm running stock ported heads w/3 angle vj, ported plenum, ported stock intake and SLP runners. My car runs good with that setup, much better than stock. Lots of torque. Still runs out of air, but I just bought a Super Ram and plan to upgrade heads and intake soon. I made a cold air induction out of PVC and that made a big difference too, FYI.

How nasty is the idle on the LT4 cam? I want to be able to have friends in the car -girls in particular :-)and for them to enjoy the ride and not shake at a stop sign. What about gas mileage, too? Thanks.

Get everything ported that you can while you have the intake apart, its definitely worth it. The LT4 HOT cam has a noticeable idle, and it will thump, but its not so bad as to be undriveable. Tom Keliher has one in his car and has a mpeg movie of his car at idle on his website.

I am going to be using the stock springs with my LT4 Hot Cam. It sounds like an ideal cam for your car, it probably will have a noticeable idle, but like it was said, not too bad.
