Hey guys. Heres the problem. My 1987 TA GTA, had a MAF crap out last summer. It was original. I changed it with the wells model which im sure most of you are familiar with. Anyway since the swap, my car has developed some sort of hic-up. I can't get the engine above 4000RPM when it's cold. (I mean engine cold not outside air temp). This happens in any gear and in Park or Neutral. It will not rev over 4000. If you put your foot to the floor it starts bacfireing and farting and popping, the car starts surging like someone driving a standard bad. Sometimes I can Smell raw fuel and see brown smoke billowing out the **** end. But....When the engine comes up to normal operating temp, the problem seems to go away. Please...someone have an answer for this problem. Thanx.

Ok, first of all, it's NOT your MAF sensor causing the problems! I replaced the MAF on my car and did't have that problem! 2nd....I HAVE experienced the problems you are having right now! The only suggestions I can give you are these! 1. Have the Module checked! 2. Check your timing and 3. Check your fuel pressure! I've had this problem TWICE...the first time it was the fuel pump going bad....the 2nd time it was the timing was WAY off!! If all else fails, just remember it's a small block CHEVY!! LOL!

Edge,
it sounds like the fuel pump. Also why are you reving the car to 4000rpm when it's cold?

P.S. you have some small valves in that thing

Hey man,i went through the same exact problem. It wound up being my firing order. The car ran fine until it got to a certain rpm where it wouldnt go anymore past that rpm and it just popped and backfired. It was just 2 of my wires mixed up going to the wrong sparkplugs. It wasnt a bad enough goof up to make the car idle bad but when you gave it gas i had the same problem.
