A few problems. Need some help.

Hi guys, I hope I'm posting this in the right area, mods feel free to move if necessary.
I have 1992 RS, 305, automatic. I've changed the TBI to TPI, and the tranny is a TCI 700r4. For the TPI conversion, I used parts from a wrecked but running 92 Z28. The engine is running great, the TPI really woke up that 305. I have a few issues though, someone hopefully can help.

The speedometer and odometer are inop. They were working before the swap, and all gauges were functional in the donor car. I've checked the connections and wiring over and over again, and I can't find any obvious problems.
Also, I changed my single fan setup to dual fans, again from the same donor car, and again, they worked before I removed them and installed in my RS.

Thanks for any help.
-Dave

All other gauges are working properly; Except the fuel gauge but thats my fault, I damaged one of the wires when I changed the fuel pump. All the relays are hooked up, but I haven't tested them. I do know that everything on the donor car was working propoerly... But the body was wasted. I am getting a "Service Engine Soon" light, but I don't what the codes are. I don't have a scanner. Is there a way to check without a scanner?
The fans are properly hooked up. I had the luxury of a complete, uncut wiring harness and computer from a running TPI car.

I'm about ready to remove the cluster, fab up my own and use some aftermarket gauges; and wire up some kind of switch for the fans. The car runs excellent otherwise.

Use a paperclip to ground out the ALDL under the steering wheel. Connect the paperclip between to the last to spots on the top row of the ALDL. Your SES light will flash any codes. It will first flash a 12, i.e. one flash for 1 and two flashes for 2, the 12 indicates the ECM is working properly. Any other codaes will flash after the 12. Each code will flash 3 times.

Any Haynes manual has a list of trouble codes.

Easier way is to take ot to Autozone and have them hook up there scanner to it and tell you what the codes are.

Re: A few problems. Need some help.

Simple fix for the speedo, you just have to run jumpers from the brown and red wires on the connector for the VSS buffer directly to the corresponding wires at the ECM. Unfortunately I don't remember exactly which wires on the ECM (it's been a while since I did mine but they are the same colors) so I'd advise you to call Angel at TPIParts.com and he can tell you exactly which ones you need to use. As for the codes just use a paper clip or something similar and ground the A and B terminals on the ALDL connector and the SES light will flash the codes. Just count the flashes (long flashes x10, short flashes x1), that and a service manual or you can check this site and get the code info. Hope this helps.

Re: A few problems. Need some help.

The wire harness I used had the connectors for tranny and VSS. I connected the VSS, but not the tranny (I'm running a TCI Streetfighter 700r4 which uses a universal lockup switch). Is there something else I may have left disconnected? I know my speedo worked before the TPI swap, and I know the speedo worked in the donor car... can't figure it out.
