Removal of TB/Plenum?

Okay, I have never removed either of those. I know how to do it, as it seems rather straight forward. My question is, will I need to drain the cooling system to remove either of these? The Chilton's manual I have says nothing about it, but I know when I worked on my rocker arms before I pulled one of the hoses and a bunch of antifreeze came out. Thanks

Matt

4 10mm bolts hold the TB on. Then you have to remove the throttle cable. That will make the TB loose if you want to take the plenum off now you can. To actually remove the TB, you have to disconnect the vacuum connection, TPS, IAC, heater hose, and some other emissions crap.

Now for the plenum, they are torx. Don't remember what size. But there are around 8 of them i think?? Then you just wiggle the plenum out . Oh yea, you have to disconnect a plug at the bottom of the plenum and the line that runs to the power brakes.
Coolant will come out when you remove the heater hose. Not that much though
Good luck

I took mine off to replace my egr valve. Your tb, in stock form, does have a coolent passage in it, but because it is one of, if not the, highest part of your coolent passages only a little will come out when you dissconect it without draining first, if any at all(make sure to do this on a cool engine). I opted not to drain my system for this process, so insted I just had a little tupperware container ready to catch the small amount of run-off that there was so it wouldn't end up on my garage floor. Coolent is highly toxic and isn't somthing you want your dog or your little bro to go licking up while your out on the test drive. It isn't brain surgery, but make sure to re-connect all of the vacum hoses and sensors when it goes back together. I hope this helps.

The torx bolts for the plenum are t-40, the TB is 10mm. You do not have to drain the cooling system. You will have to buy new gaskets for the TPI though.

Thanks for the info. I pretty much knew everything about taking the thing apart, but was unsure of the coolant. When I had the one hose off before, I didn't stand around to find out how much coolant came out. I just saw it start to leak out and shoved the hose back on the fitting. Oh well, thanks for the help guys.
