tpi intake on a vortec motor
hello all, i just got my hands on a free 350 vortec motor from a 97 chevy truck that only had 50,000 miles on it. my question is will my 87 tpi intake work on this block and if not can someone recommend a nice setup that will work. be it a carb setup or efi. i am hoping to pull about 300hp or better.

will i need to purchase new fuel injectors also? i have a 305 in the car right now with a set of 19# ford injectors. i believe i should use 21# injectors. and will i need any prom tuning after i make this swap because i have a ecm and chip from an 87 350 tpi car

Re: tpi intake on a vortec motor
you don't "need" injectors but it would be advised to upgrade and a stock prom for a 350 car of your year would work, a vett prom might be a littel better if your just looking to keep it stock or order one burnt for your setup w a performance tune.
Also edelbrock makes a vortec base plate, but i dont know which is better, anyone?
what year is the car?
if the car's a 305 converting it to a 350 there might be balance isusse w the flywheel if its a stick and if auto use the flexplate for the 350 1 piece rear mains are differant from the 2 piece bolt patters.

Edelbrock makes the SDPC vortec intake. They are the same intake.

Re: tpi intake on a vortec motor
my car is an 86 iroc with an 87 roller motor in it right now. so i think i should have the right flex plate because its a one piece rear seal. i think i will go with the sdpc intake, also, if anyone in the st louis area is looking for a freshly rebuilt 305 roller cam motor this one will be coming out soon. only about 6000 miles on a complete rebuild from the oil pan up.

24 lb. SVO's are to way to go with your vortec 350. SDPC vortec TPI base is also needed along with a custom chip for your ECM.

just a littel advisory if any one can answer the 305 and 350 1 pice rear mains are balanced differantly. I keep getting mixed answers, but theres differant flex plate's for each, balance wise, and teeth wise for sure (153/168)

Re: tpi intake on a vortec motor
As far as I know, the 5.0, 5.7, and 4.3 engines used the same flywheel, and were 153 teeth. I think the trucks used the bigger flywheel.
