Cheap and/or easy mods for a 305??
anyone have suggestions as to cheap mods or mods i can do myself to give my 305 some more hp. i already have k&n filter & dual borla 3" exhaust from the cats back. also, i am thinking of puttin chevy bowtie exhaust tips on. would these hinder the exhaust flow since the tailpipe wouldn't be 3" anymore w/those on?
I doubt the tips would be that much of a restriction. Port the plenum, get some high flow runners and either port your base or buy an aftermarker base. Headers will really wake it up too. I realize most of these aren't really cheap, but they will really make a difference compared to the cheapo mods which dont really do anything anyway. Porting the plenum is free.

I'd like to port my plenum as well (remove those walls just on the inside past the throttle body. If I take the TB and runners off, do I need new gaskets ?
Thanks!

Changing the gaskets is personal preference... there are those here who will say if you break the seal of a gasket, CHANGE IT!! (Like me, but that's just the Navy's hydraulics training infecting my brain.) But there are others who will tell you that if the gaskets are still in great shape, (good is not good enough) then you shouldn't have any problem re-using them.

Just buy the gaskets and don't screw around. They are less than $20 and will save you many hours of headaches.
I'm porting plenums for $60, by the way. I do more than just remove the EGR dams. I spend 90 minutes on each one with the 25000 RPM die grinder and carbide cutters.
Want another cheap mod? Buy yourself a 112 degree LSA cam from Comp Cams, with about 214 degrees duration and install it yourself. Follow it up with a Turbine Tech torque converter for $160. It seems to be a good unit for 305's. Mine is holding up to approximately 285 horsepower from my 305, and has made 31 passes at the strip, with 21MPG on the way home from the track.
