MAF sensor for 86 Z28
MAF sensor for 86 Z28
A friend of mine needs a MAF sensor for his Z28. Where would be the best place to buy it? Have looked at CarParts.com seems that they have some made by different manufacturers form $150.00 to $300.00. What is the difference? Thanks for any info.

Some of the aftermarket ones like the Wells SU145 and Micro-tech are heated film sensor types, unlike the Bosch heated wire MAF. The film types (supposedly) respond quicker than the heated wire ones. Film types are also less susceptible to vibration and shock damage.
That said, I have a Wells SU145 in my car in place of the OEM Bosch one. Works fine

Thanks for your help Lee. My car came stock with dual cats and have been thinking about replacing with Random Tech was wondering why you went with one 3 inch cat. My motor is mostly stock but do have SLP headers and a few other things. (Raymond)

I have a single exhaust because that's what the car came with
3" is large enough that I don't worry about excess back pressure, and I only added the cat to keep it (sorta) emissions legal.
The Random cat is good, but after I bought it and examined it, there don't seem to be any real differences between it and other less expensive monolithic block cats. Kinda pisses me off that I spent $300 for this, but live and learn.
