stop car from smoking!
My 85 305tpi trans am smokes when you start it. It emits blue smoke which people have told me is caused by oil being left over in the cylinders. What's the easiest way to fix this problem? Installing new head gaskets?

No, its your valve seals. They're correct in telling you its caused by oil in the cylinders. The oil in the heads will leak by the bad valve seals, and will collect in the combustion chamber. When you start the car, the oil gets burned and causes the smoke.

The only way to fix this problem is to replace your valve guide seals. This would generally entail removing the heads and taking it to a machine shop, or doing it yourself.
However, its not an "its gonna kill my engine" problem, so most people dont bother fixing it.
