Need help with improving my intake base...
I need to improve the flow of my intake with this new cam I bought. My question is what would cost less and what would flow better between my 2 options.
1. Get a base from a junk yard and have it fully ported and polished by someone. What would that cost?
2. Get an aftermarket base, whichever one is cheapest?

Borg Warner 7.75" 9 Bolt Rear End
Current Mods: LT4 Hot Cam, Comp Cams 1.52:1 Roller Rocker Arms, Edelbrock TES 1 5/8" Headers, Hooker 3" Aerochamber Cat-Back System, Performance Resource Chip, Accel Ignition Coil, Cap, Rotor, 8.8mm Wires, K&N Filters, JET TPI Air Foil, All Free Mods, Falken ZIEX Z-Rated Tires.
Best ET (w/o LT4 cam): 14.32 @ 97.7mph
(corrected for elevation)
7.5" 10 Bolt with 3.42s soon to come!

Dan,
You can improve on the stock base intake performance by porting and polishing it. However, it can not achieve the same potential as an aftermarket base EXCEPT by extrude honing it - which costs more than the afermarket base. I've been pondering the ported stock vs aftermarket issue for a long time. From what I've gathered, you can do ok with porting until you go to better induction and heads - my car runs pretty good with a stock ported intake. I am upgrading to an aftermarket intake now because I'm going with new heads & Super Ram. I guess the way to approach it is, if you intend to build the car much beyond stock, you will eventually have to buy an aftermarket intake. When you do so is up to you, but with the GP I'm currently organizing this is the best price you'll find.

Soon: ported/polished: Super Ram, Edelbrock intake, Sportsman II's w/1.6 rr's - & burning my own proms.

If you can port your own intake, that would be the cheapest option. It worked for me all last year. If not, buy an Edelbrock TPI intake (its the cheapest).

What should I expect to pay for an Edelbrock base. Also, what would it cost to have my stock base ported?

Check out the GP right now in the TPI section. They are doing Accel base for about $300. I doubt you'll find a better price anywhere else.
