something happened?
My engine just started popping through the air cleaner at idle and gets worse as I open the throttle body.
any suggestions?

Carbed?
Broken distributor, cam jumped a tooth, valve spring broke, very lean, blocked exhaust.
Those are the first things that come to mind.

or you just gave it a tuneup and have a couple wires not tight or in the wrong spot haha i've been there once or twice hehe.

If it is an MAF TPI, it could be the MAF sensor. Though that would cause a nearly un-runable idling condition and would the make the car very difficult to drive period...assuming it even runs. This sounds like switched spark plug wires or timing is off.
