Gee, that's an easy one...just about any cam you pick is hotter!

It depends if you want to upgrade other parts of your motor and PROM. I'd recommend upgrading intake bases (or at least a good porting of the stock base) while you're at it. Crane makes Compucam's that are compatible with the stock ECM; however, you'd probably benefit from getting a custom PROM anyway. I'll be using the Compucam 2040- I haven't finished assembling the motor yet, though. Make sure it's not too hot, because of computer compatability, idle vacuum, and parts compatability. Don't use a really big, hot cam with stock TPI. If you're going to upgrade other parts of the motor for HP, why not just drop in a 350? You may need to pull the motor anyway. You'll be ALOT happier. I was going to do a cam change to my '86 but decided on a hot 350. Other choices are the LT4 hot cam (not sure on computer compatability), L98 cam, TPI's cam's (SS L98, ZZ-9), and some GM cams, just to name a few. Jeg's has alot of cams for these cars. (1800-345-4545 for catalog)Be sure to change the damper(good idea), springs (to match), and timing chain while you're at it. Time it at stock, don't advance it or retard cam timing. Don't knock the damper on with a hammer, either. Sit down, plan it out, and think it through. You've only got a 305- there's a 1/4" difference in bore size between a 305 and 350 (which means big HP differences). You may consider looking for a cam, springs and chain kit to make maximum low-end torque if you're on a budget. It's hard to say, it all depends on what you're looking to do with it. We also need to know more about your motor (mods and power range you'd like). If you're still running an automatic you may want to get a torque converter and shift kit to match. Unfortunatly, you really won't see large increases in performance in a 305, as compared to a 350, due to bore size, so don't be dissapointed. So if horsepower is your game, save for a 350, or do all the cheap, low-buck mods you can (like filters, plunum porting, etc...)You may consider your long term goals with the car before putting money into a motor you'll pull in a year, anyway. Either way, good luck -dhirocz
