Idle at 1500!!HELP

My car idles at 1500 and when I throw it in drive the front tires almost hop off the ground!!

I had to change the TPS(set properly),and the Idle air control motor. Is there something else I should check. I know the ECM Controls the idle but I'm new to the TPI world so any help would be appreciated!!!

I was also told it could be a vaccuum leak but whats the best way to track one down?

If you've already replaced the IAC and TPS then I suspect that someone has fooled with the minimum air set screw before and perhaps has the throttle blades cranked open too much. Have you tried setting the minimum air with the procedure in the tech section of this board yet? Do that first and see if that's the problem.

If not, you can check for vacuum leaks by spraying some carb cleaner around all the gaskets and hoses and listening for a change in the idle. A tank of propane (unlit) works very well for this also. Hope this helps.

Actually the set idle screw is unscrewed all the way and is not even touching the throttle arm (?)I will look up the tech info and try that and post back !

How do you check the throttle blades or is that what the screw does?

Just rotate them by hand and see if you feel any sticking or binding. Also check and see if your accelerator pedal linkage is sticking too, I've seen that before. Does it idle at 1500 when fully warmed or when you first start it? What voltage did you set the TPS at?

also do you take out the diagnostic ground wire or clip before you start the engine after you disscounted the IAC to turn the torx screw or do you leave in the wire while you turn the torx screw ?

Definitely do not start the engine with the terminals of the ALDL jumpered. That can mess up the ECM, so just pull the clip out before you start. I'd say your problem is with the mechanical side of things if it does it all the time, worn throttle blade shaft bushings, bent throttle blade shaft, something binding or sticking somewhere. Also make sure you get a can of throttle body cleaner and clean all the carbon from around the blade sealing surfaces to see if that helps. Try to minimize driving it until you find the cause since it's hard on the driveline.
