Hot cam selection???

Just found an Accel Super-ram and some 'Vette heads to go on my 355...The Super-ram has been ported and the heads have as well...The heads are off of an '87. I have been told the SR flows around 300 cfm (wow!)and the heads 233 cfm...I don't know how accurate these #'s are, though. I am aware of the flow restriction, I could always use them on my 335. I may opt for TFS heads. Anyway, I was going to use a Crane Compucam 2040. I looked into it- It's just a step hotter that a 350 TPI 'Vette cam. Not hot enough for me. I thought about it, and figured a cam around 275/285 duration w/.500" lift would be about right. 112 LSA should be OK. I just don't want to drop in any cam, I'd like suggestions on known, proven TPI cams. Something computer-friendly. I'm looking for a 2250-6000 RPM powerband, N/A, and a fair ldle. Other equipment I'll be using is a T-56, 3.73's, MSD, 1 3/4" headers and a 52mm TB w/airfoil (may go 58mm?). Looking for about 450 HP. I may decide on a blower in the future, but not right now. My block is hyd.flat tappet but I may convert to roller if I won't go bankrupt. I prefer roller, anyway. Anybody successful with any hot TPI street cams? Still looking after mileage. -dhirocz

With your extensive list of mods, I would look at several cams. I have been very happy with my LT4 HOT Cam. I bought it from www.gmpartsdirect.com for $185 with shipping. TPIS makes a wide selection of cams. The ZZ9, ZZ9-X and others have been proven to work well, although these cams will cost you close to $400, you can look at the specs of these cams at the TPIS web site www.tpis.com. You can also consider the larger of the 2 SLP Cams in Summit. My friend is very happy with his SLP cam. The sites are www.summitracing.com and www.slpeng.com, I hope this helps!

DH,

Don't forget that Comp has sixty pages of SBC camshafts, for whatever setup you want, and about fifty years of cam design experience. They might at least have an idea of what would work well for you, I would think.
