Pick up coil swap

Hey guys,
I plan on putting a new AC Delco pick up coil in my distributor tomorrow. My question is: once I pull the pin out of the distributor gear, how do I get the gear out. I'm guessing its kinda pressed in and it won't come out that easily.
Anybody out there done this??

The gear will slip off eaisly, taking the shaft out of the housing will be more difficult. Don't forget to mark how the gear was on the shaft (I believe there is a bevel type mark on one side of the shaft).... Should take about an hour to do and will make your car run soooo much better.

Also, make sure that the polarity of the pickup coil matches your coil.

This may not matter for some years, but for the 86, if the pick-up coil has a yellow wire, the coil must have a yellow wire too.

If the coil has a white white, then any pick-up coil can be used EXCEPT one that has a yellow wire.

Strange set of affairs at GM.

Hey guys,
I swapped the pick up coils. It was easier than I thought. The pin came out without making me curse and the gear just fell out afterwards. There were no grooves or bevels. It took me just under 1 hr to remove the distributor from the engine, replace the old part and put it back in. Losing traction at 40 MPH now is a piece of cake (on dry, but not sticky roads); it definately feels better, but the surge and stumbling off the hole is still there. I'll have to check my TPS and see what the setting is.
Thanks for ya'lls help
Rick
