One thing is you should read all the tech acticles on this site. When you come to the site instead of clicking on the message board look for tech articles and click on that. These are very well written and should help you decide on mods you want to do.
Also this
https://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/faq/thirdgen.shtml
Will go into some free mods.
To list a few free mods they are:
port the plenum
Throttle body bypass
Home made ram air
torque convertor lockup
MAF (screens out and fins cut)

Some people think these are good things and others say somethings you shouldn't do, you just have to read alot and figure out if it is good for you.
You can also do a search for "free mods" and that may give you additional info. If you need/want pictures of some of the mods again a search my help or start a new thread asking for it and someone will have it and send you to the site that has it.
The one thing is reading and not just the message boards.
Good Luck.

Yes, 1 thing I suggest u don't do is mod the MAF, unless u are going to be having a high flowing, really modded 350, or like a 305 with an S/C.

free mods are a great thing, but you have to remember, the factory must have made something on the car the way it is for a reason, MAF, high temp thermostat, catalytic converters, etc. reason being, it makes the car run right, pass emissions, and there are plenty of other reasons, l find that if you mess around with factory setting for tiny tiny amounts of horsepower, its just not worth it, instead of spending time gutting the cat and not passing emissions, take a little money and put it towards something that might actually make real power instead of freeing up 3 measley horse power and risk getting in trouble for fooling with emissions crap
-it's just not worth it. pay for your mods, youll be way better off
