SLP Runners
SLP Runners
Guys, I need to pull the SLP runners off my car and was wondering if you could give me some tips as to how to get this done. I dont have alot of experience with TPI and would appreciate it if you could tell me what tools I need and any other important info that comes to your mind regarding the job. I would like to pull them off because someone painted them black and i would like to get them back to the original aluminum color. Thanks, Alex
I put the SLP runners on my car. You will need the special wrench from SLP to get the runner bolts out. Also, some new gaskets for when you put them back on. I cant exactly remember other than that, but you will probably need your basic tools - wrenches, screwdrivers, sockets...

I didn't need any special tool, nor did I recieve one with my kit
You will need a standard 6mm allen wrench for most of the screws. I maintained the stock two torx screws on the inside, maybe that is what is different ???
The only one thing different than a normal TPI runner removal that I ran into was that after removing all of the runner attaching bolts, I had to first totally remove the plenum and then loosen the fuel rail and lift it up about an inch in order to remove the runners. Otherwise I couldn't remove the runners because there wasn't enough clearance between my valve covers and the fuel rail to remove the runners.
Other than that it was the same as any other TPI runner installation/removal.

Get the torx head. I've never had to move my fuel rails to get my SLP runners off either my stock intake or my Edelbrock intake.
Remember the two hidden bolts holding the runners on, they come in from the back side of the runner, one in front, one in back.

How do you know someone painted them black? When the runners first came out in 88,they were black.I think they look good in black although I wouldnt neccesarily paint them black if they were aluminum. Not worth the hassle to take them off and repaint them IMO,but to each his own. They are a PITA to put them back on!
