is 350 HP possible with TPI?
Ok guys I am looking into buying a 89 GTA and want to know what it would take to get 350 HP with a 350 TPI. Actually I want to know if it is possible without spending $3000-$4000. I know i will need to put headers and new exhaust, intake, cam, and maybe heads (i don't know anything about the heads on this engine). Or should I do something else before the intake cam and heads? How much do aftermarket intake run for TPI? sorry i am only 18 and new to fuel injection because i have only worked on cars that are carburated.
thanks

Yes, its possible, and if you buy the parts used you can do it. If you're on any kind of a budget, dont even try it. TPI performs, and it performs well, but its strength is torque, not horsepower. My previous engine dynoed at 280 HP and 380 TQ, and ran the times you see in my sig. I added a TPIS intake & runners, LT4 HOT cam, and SLP 1 3/4" headers, and I'm hoping for over 300 HP at the wheels this time. I got the parts used.
For new parts, its like this:
Cam: $200-300
Heads: $1000-1400
Super Ram or Miniram intake: $1200-1400
SLP 1 3/4" headers: $500
Built Trans: $1000-1400
You're over $4000 right there, and thats not even everything. However, for used parts, I paid $50 for the cam, my dad had the heads, the intake was $400, and the headers were $150.

350 hp is definitely possible with a 350 TPI and even with a 305, and you certainly dont have to spend gobs and gobs of money in order to get that far, and since torque is actually what youre looking for in a street car, you might consider nitrous, and ignition system, a good fuel pump, and a decent pressure regulator, I find that NOS #5151 makes a great kit for either a 305 TPI or 350, and it's adjustable from 100-150 extra ponies, since you have a 350 (hope fully its in proper tune) you can safely use all 150 horses of nitrous, although l would reccomend a good fuel pump and ignition system MSD 6 series are great ignitions, and TPIS has great fuel pumps and pressure regulators, maybe headers, and a 3.73 rear end and youre safely on your way to a streetable somewhat fuel economic street car.
