Should I replace my EGR valve?

I am rebuilding a 350 TPI motor that came out of a wrecked 89 GTA. My question is, would now be a good time to replace my EGR valve? It probably ran pretty good for this guy before he ran the car straight into a wall. My dad thinks that I should replace it now because it's one of those "things you should just do." He said they are a pain in the *** to diagnose when you have a problem with one. Should I do it or should I spare myself 75 bucks and see what happens? What do you guys think???? ANY help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If it helps any, I just got one for $50 on www.carparts.com. If it's got a lot of miles on it, might as well go ahead and replace it unless you're strapped for cash.

I would replace it while you have the motor apart.I if it goes bad it will ping like hell. I just replaced one on my LB9 T/A $61.00 from GM including the EGR switch becareful that wire always seems to brake off on the top of the switch.Get it from GM dont by any of that generic parts store S--T.

I don't know if its true or not but I was told by a few mechanics that it lowers the combustion chamber by 500 degrees! if so then its worth changing just get a good one from GM. I got a pos from discount auto becasue they were all that had it in stock.

replace it with a block-off plate. They are MUCH more reliable.
