CAR WONT STAY RUNNING

My car will start, but it will not stay running unless I keep pumping the gas. I just finished putting the motor in today. I am not sure if I have evrything hooked up. I am not sure about the vacum lines, especially the fuel regulator and for the EGR. Also, where do the back two vacum ports on the plenum on the passenger side near the fuel pressure regulator. Any help would be appreciated. I also would like to know what color wire goes to the knock sensor and to the fan switch. It is an 89 IROC TPI.

you should have a vacuum line diagram on the underside of the hood. It should give you an idea of how everything goes. Also get yourself a good factory service manual. It will have all the wiring diagrams you need to get your problems taken care of. Good luck

I had a similar problem when I did my TPI swap. As it turned out, I had 3 clogged injectors! I had them sonicly cleaned, but I left them sit too long before using them.

Try this. Next time you start you engine, keep it running for 15 seconds or so. Then check to see if your exhuast manifolds are hot. I had three that were COLD at each exhuast port. I had a temp sensor on my multimeter so it made it easy to check. You can use water to see if it evaporates quick or not.

Other than that, I had my minimum idle set too low. I had a 52MM TB that needed to be set.

If you are not getting any codes, then it is something strange like I had.

By the way, I unclogged 2 of the three injectors by tapping them on the side with a screw driver handle. Ok not the most scientific, but cost effective. Actually, I made up my own test lead and with the engine off, I would check each injector and listen for the "click".

Do you have a scan tool? I found this of great use when getting mine running. I could monitor the TPS, the RPM, temp, block learn, etc. Damn useful tool. Without it, I would have been stumbling much longer.

Mark.

check your IAC [idle air control valve] its on the underside of the Throttle body. New one is only 60 something dollars at autozone. Mine ran like a new car afterwards
