Can I run a ZZ4 with entirely stock TPI, including 305 injectors and prom?
Can I run a ZZ4 with entirely stock TPI, including 305 injectors and prom?
I have plans to put a ZZ4 in my 1989 Z28 originally equipped with a TPI 305, 700R4, and 2.73 rear.
I really only have enough to get the engine in right now. I would then upgrade the runners, tb, lower intake, injectors, and prom at a later date.
So my question is, can I run this engine with my stock exhaust manifolds ( I have a catback), 19lb injectors, 305 prom, using only an AFPR to tune the car at WOT? I have access to Diacom software so that wont be a problem. This car also uses a MAF sensor, so that will help right?
My main question is will I have relatively good performance running through factory intake/exhaust setups, while not hurting the engine by not running too lean, until I can upgrade?

Sure you can. But I wouldnt run it at WOT very much, as it will be lean. How lean is anyone's guess. Or it might be pretty close. You should get an aftermarket intake manifold soon, as the ZZ4 heads have a different bolt pattern for the middle bolts than your stock 89 intake manifold. You should put a bolt or something in the middle holes and silicon it well to keep from having leaks.
If it was me, I'd do the other mods first, to get the car ready for the engine.
