TPS and Code 34
TPS and Code 34
A few days ago someone on here said that an improperly set TPS could cause code 34 to come up. My TPS is a month old, and when I plug my scanner in it says .58 volts. Is that too much? The book said get it to .54-.56 but that was as close as I could get it!

.58 vdc is fine, just as long as you don't go above .63 vdc you shouldn't have a problem. What book told you .54 - .56? The actual allowances are .54 +/- .075 vdc (straight from the GM Manual).

On my 85 Iroc code 22 is for Tps and code 34 is for mass air flow sensor. Check your repair manually to make sure its the code. When I got code for mass air flow it was because the air duct between MAF and throttle body was not sealed good and was sucking in air.
Hope this helps but like I said your codes could be different then my 85.

A misadjusted TPS can throw a MAF code also... I chased a code 33 a while back until Shane Soldice sent me an article about how the TPS works with the MAF in reporting to the ECM. If the MAF shows too much/too little air coming across at a given throttle position (according to the TPS if it isn't adjusted right) you can bet your bottom dollar you will get a code 33/34. You would probably get a code 21/22 if there was NO signal or a very weak signal coming from the TPS.
Haynes said it must be between .54 and .56
Thanks for the advice, I'll check out the ducting when I get home and it finally stops raining and let you all know what happens!
p.s. The throttle lags a little when I jam the gas from a dead stop every now and then
