Oil Cooler

Okay, I am hoping someone knows what this thing is. It looks to me like an oil cooler. It has an adapter in between the oil filter, and the block, then 2 big lines coming off of it going around the front of the oil pan, then 1 line goes up to the radiator just below the radiator cap, and the other one follows the frame rail to the fire wall. Right about where the #4 spark plug is, the line T's off and goes to a black thing that is part of the emmision contol I believe. BTW, this is not a B4C, or 1LE Camaro. It is just a 91 Z-28.

Thanks,

Yes, an oil cooler. I just removed mine. Total 100% PITA if you have to drop the oil pan to do a cam swap. There are also some horror stories of them getting plugged.

Gunning for NA 11's with bigger cam, bigger stall, and bigger exhaust.

I would consider yourself lucky. A good friend of mine has a '92 T/A WS6, and his option codes depict that he should have an oil cooler, but there are no signs of it anywehre. I even ran his VIN through GM to verify he should have gotten the oil cooler, and he has nothing.

As for it plugging up, I would have to say 75% of the trucks I work on at work have an oil cooler, and never seen a problem with them (other than ocassional leaks). To remove them for service, its just two bolts, a gasket and an o-ring, nothing real hi-tech.
