Compucam 2040

I just want some general info from anybody using this, or the 2030/2050. My engine is slightly modified, its the 305/tpi, and it will have head work done, i will do some plenum porting, and its already running dual "H" pipes with no cats. Can I go bigger with the stock chip? Or is this the perfect cam? Also where is the power on you guys who run this setup, does it pull in high rpms or low? oh yea, im running a 700R4, 2000 stall, shift kit, and 3.70 gears.

You aren't too far off the setup I was going to run on my '86 IROC. I opted for a 355 and a hotter cam, though. I did drive a similar car, and that cam made a big difference over the peanut cam. The 2050 would be for 350 TPI's, I'd say. A small engine doesn't have a need for a big cam. Pop it in and have fun. It won't scream, but definitely be quicker. That's just because of the limitations of the 305. You should be OK, but I've also heard of others using other cams with great success. Not sure of what they are, though.

I don't know that much about running the Crane cams, but I know that the SLP cams are great for 305's and 350's. Keep in mind that the GM Performance Parts "LT4 Hot Cam" (p/n 24502586) has almost the exact same specs as the largest of the SLP cams (p/n 51010) and is about half the price of the SLP cam. The only mods needed to get the GMPP cam to work in an L98 or LB9 is to push the cam gear dowel pin in a little bit. Hope that's some help...........

Awesome, thanks alot guys.

as far as limitations all engines have them, I WOULD like to squeeze every ounce of juice out of this 305, although im not running 22lb injectors or anything (yet) So sounds like either the GM or the 2040 is the one, the GM was a route i didn't think of, again, THANKS!

Don't run 22# injectors on a 305 unless you have a serious blower and ome mods. To get more out of a 305, get an aftermarket intake, roller rockers, a better cam, 335 stroker bottom end (I'd get a 383, same as one, just in a 305), ported heads, blower, 52mm TB, etc...That would make impressive power out of a 305, but why not get a 350 for the price? It'd also be pretty torquey, but no good for high-rpm racing. Just my $.02
