The aluminum shaft will fit through the LT1 cars...they are all the same irregardless of trans(I know for sure of the 700r4 and T-5....200M trannies may be diff)...the LS1 shafts work I guess...but are bigger in dia and thinner material...have heard they aren't as strong but that could be hearsay...

Thats weird that you say that, Why in the hell would GM put a weaker driveshaft in a more powerful car? I want to get a LS1 shaft myself, becuse I always thought a bigger shaft (dia.) would be stronger. But I really dont know either.

Re: aluminum driveshaft ?
I can't tell you for sure if the driveshaft will interchange between F-body generations, but I can tell you that the F-car version of the 700r4 is the same EXACT length as the F-car version of the 4L60E.
That being said, I replaced the 2-piece steel driveshaft with carrier bearing (went out) in my 1983 G20 van (700r4 equipped) with a 1 piece aluminum shaft from a 1995 G20 van (4L60E equipped) and the fit was perfect.

Re: aluminum driveshaft ?
thats helpful cause i guess that guy didnt know what he was talking about cause he said theyre diffent lengths. its just before i go to the bone yard i want to make sure it will fit. i called today and they have one i think off of a 99 or 00 ss and only want 100 bucks for it. i hate dealerships they always try to bs you. i just replaced my trans mount with a poly one and they tried to tell me i have to replace the motor mounts with poly as well or i could tear up my transfer case and what not. sorry to go off topic. but thanks for the info

Re: aluminum driveshaft ?
The f-body aluminum driveshaft will fit all other thirdgen and fourthgen f-bodies with V8's, and T5, T56, 700R4, 4L60, or 4L60E overdrive transmissions.
I dont know if it fits the 82-83 f-bodies with non-overdrive transmissions.

Re: aluminum driveshaft ?
My 83' came with non-overdrive trans and V-8. Used the same driveshaft after putting a TH-350 in it. Used it to make many, as in around 200 twelve second runs on slicks with it. This one was steel. Switched to aftermarket aluminum and saw no solid repeatable gain. Just change U-joints( Spicer ) and put a white stripe on it to check for twisting.
