bad computer ??
I have a rough idle when I start after I leave my 88 305 overnight.
it needs to be revved 3-4 times right after I turn the key or it will sputter and die.
then the idle is choppy for the next 5 mins or so then like a switch turning on it smooths right out and runs well.
recently I started it up and then bridged my ALDL for field service mode when It was idleing rough and that cleared it right up.
I dont understand what that could have done other than bypass some sensor or computer function that is causing this problem.
could someone please Identify the problem as I am unfamiliar with computer functions in field service mode.
thanx in advance

No, it is not a bad computer. Something is preventing it from tranfering from startup and open loop mode to closed loop.
Could be the EGO sensor. My TBI motor did this one time and it turned out to be a bad injector.

'88 IROC TPI 355, '69 truck 4-bolt, fully balanced, 9.75:1 compression, fully ported '70 truck heads(for now), Harland Sharp 1.6 Roller Rockers, Comp Cams CS 252AH-12, ported '86 TPI converted to speed density, Crane AFPR, Flowmaster 3in. exhaust, Edelbrock TES headers, all emissions equipment is still intact, plan on burning my own chips, many more mods and parts on the way as time and money permits =(
Best E.T. with TBI 305: 16.11 @ 82mph
Haven't been to track with new motor
Won bracket races at Numidia Raceway with my '70 Nova
In memory of Dale Earnhardt, I'll miss cheering for that black #3 on raceday!!!

No when I put the paper clip in it transfers to closed loop just fine so I dont think that would be it.
Also when it is in open loop during field service it idles just fine so I dont think that is a problem. the open loop mode actually should have a better idle than closed loop during startup. thats why its there.
