is LB9 a real high output

on the rpo codes it says lb9 is a high output motor why is that ? is it cuz its a tpi motor? or some kind of cam besides peanut ?

Yes, in the sense of it having highest horsepower output in the GM 305 engine class in its era, and it sounded good for marketing. other than that its considered a low output by most people.

Its "High Output" compared to the other 305's GM used in thirdgens (LG4, LO3, L69) but really the only LB9's that should be called "high output" would be the 89-92 ones with 5-speeds and dual-cats.

85's only had 15hp less than the dual cat M5 cars, so that would be considered HO as well.
