I am having an overheating problem. I was told to check the cooling fan switch, located on the passehger side head, between the last two cylinders. I checked it and it is practically crumbled into pieces...so i got a new one yesterday, i am going to put it on as soon as i get a free minute..i tried to take it off today, and i couldnt get anything on it...wrench or socket..so i am gonna try again when i have some time..i hope this is my problem, might be worth looking into for you too.

88TA,

The fans do not necessarily turn on as soon as the ignition is on. The primary fan (150W0 is controlled by the ECM based on the input from the CTS and the AC system. The secondary fan is controlled by a temperature sensor in the right cylinder head.

If your car is overheating, try turning on the air conditioner. A fan should start almost right away. If not, there is a problem with the fan control circuit. You can test the secondary fan by grounding the wire from the sensor in the right head, which should operate the fan relay. If this doesn't work either, you have a fan power problem. There are fusible links between the battery and fans, and there is a single ground connection for both fans at the lower radiator support. Check all these.

If you ground the secondary temperature sensor and the fan does not operate but you hear the fan relay click, you may have a fan power or relay contact problem. Get out the meter and follow along:
