MAT Relocaton??

TPIS states that if you move the manifold absolute temp sensor to just before the TB, you get much better throttle response. This seems right to me because the air is obviously cooler at this point. They also use the 92 & up MAT sensor, why, I do not know yet. Has anyone did this yet, and did you notice any difference? Or, is this just a waste of time and $35.

I did it and throttle response improved and it didn't cost me $35.All I did was splice the wires long enough to reach the air ducting in front of the MAF.I soldered the spliced wires and there's a plate w/ a hole in the air duct on the drivers side.

You need to look up the discussion that I had with a couple other members about that MAT sensor relocation last week.

The jist of what we came up with is that the MAT on a MAF car only controls the EGR valve cutoff and NOT the fuel or timing control of the engine. Therefore, moving the sensor on a MAF car is not going to give better performance and it is most likely a bad idea.

On a SD setup, the moving of the MAT/IAT will bring great gains - if the EPROM is made to work with it (the ECM will be getting waayyy different readings than it is used to if you move the sensor).

Rob,

If you want to do it, check this file for instructions:

MAT Sensor Relocation.pdf

You'll need Adobe Acrobat reader to access the file. (See below.)

Rob, I was thinking about doing this also a couple of weeks ago. But after reading all the info about this lately I have changed my mind. If I had a SD system I would do it. Glenn has been doing some research on this lately. If you feel your car is running too lean then it might help. Or maybe if you put in a bigger duration cam with a custom chip. But with my mods that are like your yours I would leave it alone unless Glenn comes up with some different info.

It's a waste of money on MAF cars as I cannot find anything in the machine code for MAF cars that suggests that the ecm uses it for any correction. Though it is a cool thermometer if you have a scan tool running.
