TBI to Carb to TPI

Yeah, you read the title correctly.

So I have an 88 IROC Z28 which came stock with a 305 TBI. Previous owner thrashed the motor, put in an L98 350 with teh stock TBI. Big Mistake, engine's starved for fuel.

Initially I had planned on going back to the caveman years and throwing a carb on it. I'm sick of electronics; but now a friend has given me his TPI setup. Based upon the TPI Shootout sticky, I've decided to keep it, thus changing out the fuel pump, wiring harness and ECM.

So, with a stock TPI, a stock 350, fully ported L98 heads, 10:1 CR; full 3" exhaust, 24 lb/hr injectors and an LT4 Hotcam, any guesses as to how much power I'll put out?

I'm shooting for 350-400 hp....pretty sure I need to put in a larger cam to achieve those numbers, as well as modify the TPI and reprogram the PROM.

Any opinions?

Re: TBI to Carb to TPI

I dont think you will be close to your 350hp mark. But its a good start. I'm going to guess 300.

Mine started as a 305TBI, swapped to 350TBI(unsure if tb was changed), its now TPI. Before you rip into it, make sure you have the propper base for your heads. There are 2 TPI bases.

Re: TBI to Carb to TPI

Thank you for the advice. I'm guessing that the two different bases would be for the 305 and the 350? I'll have to ask my friend what the TPI system came off of.

Either way, thanks again!
