Guys with 6085 heads and headers, HELP!!!!!

Well today I tried to change the plugs and I CAN'T!!!
I can not get the sockets on them, because of the headers, and they are recessed to far to use open end wrenches.
When I had the old L98 Iron heads I had no problem but with the new 6085 heads I can't get to them.
Can you guys give me some insight?????

Take the rubber insert out of a 5/8 spark plug socket and then cut it shorter. Use your wrench on the socket.

All ready had done that to the socket and it didn't help, thanks.

You have to cut down the socket to the point where it barely has enough of the flats left to grip the plug. When I cut mine, I cut it at an angle which seemed to help a little bit.

406TPI.
Thanks, I thought Iwas going to have to cut the socket down and was going to do this if I didn't hear from anyone about it. You use the socket with a nut type thing on it so you could turn it with an open end or box wrench from under the car?
Any special plugs you used? Shorty types?
Anyone else feel free to add .02, hehe.

Yup, as long at it has a hex at the end, you will be fine.

Unfortunatley, you cannot buy a shorty plug for that head, or any gasket plug style head.

umm pull the header loose. That is what i had to do to change my plugs. it is not really that hard if you pull the passanger engine mount and jack up the engine. once you have installed the headers it is not really that hard to do it agian.

Thanks 406TPI.

And thanks Greg90iroc but that was what I was trying to avoid ... pulling headers off. I'm just too pressed for time working the 3rd shift. But Thanks.

Oh 406TPI, or anyone, do you know if you have this problem with AFR 190's?

Funny you should mention AFR heads I just went through a spark plug dilema with them myself. You can get the 190's in three styles of spark plug, ie. straight, angled or L98 angle. To make a long story short, I got the angle plug head and foound out they would not work with a set of 1 3/4 inch SLP's I had. Instead of sending the heads back, I bought a new set of Hooker full length 1 3/4 inch headers. They are designed to clear the standard angle plug. If I were to do it all over again, I would probably bought the straight plug head...I hear those work with the SLP's and the Hookers.
