IAC cleaning. Possible screw up?

I don't know if I messed up or not today. I took my IAC apart to be cleaned and there seemed to be a tiny white plastic o-ring at the end of the threaded pintle. The ring broke in 4 pieces. Is this o-ring vital? I cleaned the inside passageways with heavy-duty brake cleaner which seemed to work well but is it dangerous to the motor (throttle body off the car).

Also when threading back in the pintle, must it fully thread in and does the grooves have to be lined up with two side guides?

Any other concerns I should be aware of?

Ive cleaned it, but never taken it apart. If you have it threaded back in ok, make sure its all the way down and I hope it works ok. Im not sure about the o-ring, but I'll bet its there for a reason.
