What is the 9th injector

what does it do ,where is it located.thanks

Engine: 355 TPI siamesed runners
Transmission: Tremec T56
Axle/Gears: 12-Bolt 3.73
Its located on the driver's side between the runners. It adds fuel on cold starts. It's only on 85-88 TPI setups.

No, '85-'88 is correct, '89 is the only MAF car w/o the 9th injector.

Can it be taken out and plugged without altering the programming in the ECM?
I think I would like to get rid of mine.

Axle/Gears: 3.27 9-bolt
You could pull it and plug it without touching the ECM, but cold starts would be a lot rougher without it. You'd be trying to start the car on a leaner mixture. To effectively remove it you must upgrade to the $6E code in your ECM, that's the only way.

Well, once again I was wrong! LOL!! I thought Ed Wright said that '88 is w/out the Cold Start Injector but that was awhile back so what do I know...LOL! My memory is shot!!
