Erratic A/F gauge reading

I just installed an air fuel ratio gauge and the readings seem a little strange to me.I havent ever messed with this before so it`s all new and I`m not exactly sure what to expect.I have adjusted fuel pressure up and down and it made no differance in the readings. When I crank the car it reads optimal untill it warms up then it kinda strugles to stay optimal or fluctuates between optimal and lean. While cruising it stays mostly optimal until I take my foot off of the accelerator and coast it goes pretty low on the lean scale.when i goose the throttle it will shoot up to rich, down to lean then fluctuate between optimal and lean. When I floor it it goes all the way lean for about a second or so then jumps up to rich.It is always moveing up and down never staying still. Is this the ecm makeing adjustments or what?I need to get an aldl cable so I can datalog, thats next.I didnt expect the gauge to fluctuate that much cause it has a rich smell to it.Does this sound normal?I had a chip tuned for it.Running the infamous yellow accel injectors(21 lbs/hr)with about 8,000 miles on them. Thanks in advance for any help. It`s an Iequus A/F ratio gauge.

A narrowband gauge isn't accurate enough to be useful.

Re: Erratic A/F gauge reading

After i learned of wideband I wondered about that.So whats the point of a narrow band gauge? Is there any point to even haveing one?I figured it would be like checking your ratio at the O2 sensor like in the tech article section. The reason I even got it was It smells rich and my plugs show its rich.I was hopeing I could tune with it a little or is it just something to look at?

Re: Erratic A/F gauge reading

Just searched under a differant wording and found this is apparently normal and these narrow band are basically just to show extremly rich or lean and are basicly eye candy.Oh well.Start saveing for wideband and tuneing equipment I guess.
