fuel pump?
fuel pump?
OK, I know this is beat to death a lot. Here's the details though: sometimes when I start it, it will do the whine in the back, so I know it's pucshing fuel, and after a second or two, it'll stop. Sometimes it won't though. Should it ALWAYS spin up, or not?

It depends on how cold the coolant is. If the engine's cold and you "prime" the pump, it'll prime for 4-5 seconds, if the engine's warm or hot, it'll only prime for 1-2 seconds. If you've just primed it or just shut off the engine, it won't prime again for something like 30 seconds. If it's been more than 30 seconds and it isn't priming, then there's something wrong, probably an electrical problem. However, if your engine is starting up OK, then I wouldn't worry about it until your fuel pump starts dying.
