can a code 42 also trip a 33??? help!!!!

Hey,
I have been messing with this check engine light for to long. When checking the code i seen the 33 come up and never waited for any other codes. This time I let it go through the codes and seen the 33 then 42 I was told that this means the 42 was the first. If so what could be the cause?? I changed the maf and realys thinking the truble was the 33. What to check before sending to the shop and get ripped off? It is a 88 305 ta when the light comes on the car will run good till you hit 2000 rpms then it will start to cut out, HELP

id check your tps voltage for the code 33, that can set it off,. also make sure there are no vacuum leaks in maf rubber air tubing going from the tb to maf.. also make sure your connections are clean and has no corrosion or oxidation..if all of this doesnt help than its probably time for a new maf.

code 42 is Fault at electronic spark timing circuit OR
Fault at direct ignition system OR
Fault at fuel cutoff relay circuit
dont know if this helps you out on that..

GT,

The ECM will retain DTCs for the last 50 engine starts. Codes are displayed in numerical order, not necessarily the order in which they were generated.

The '33' DTC is for a MAF flow that is impossibly high at a given throttle angle and RPM. If the TPS (which reports throttle angle) is correctly adjusted, the other factor in the equation should be checked. Since the ECM gets its RPM information from the ignition system, the EST circuit is suspect. If the EST is reporting engine speed below what is actually occurring (missign input pulses) the ECM might interpret the MAF flow and calculate that the flow is too high for that RPM.

I'd check the EST connectors, coil and HEI connectors, and ECM connections and grounds. A hint that this might be occurring is the missing above 2,000 RPM and an erratic tachometer at the same time.
