this may sound a little stupid but i love the smell of racing fuel.. dotn ask me why but it has a smell that just says my car is tough i guess.. someone told me that it isnt good for a fuel injected car.. so is there a way to get that smell? also why is it that a carburated car seems to omit that smell so much more.. thanks i know this is a dumb post but jst kindof curious thanks

Racing fuel is not good for fuel injected cars from what a few "experts" have told me. Something with the burn rate. You need to add a few gallons to you tank of high test at the track. This pushes the octane up to like 100, which is good. I guess straight racing fuel burns too fast for our F/I cars. I don't buy into the Octane booster stuff you can buy at the auto parts store. I remember reading an article about the additives, they did nothing.
That's my opinion, I could be wrong.

Er, Ok, racing fuel is a higher octane, which is harder to burn (slower) and most racing fuel contains lead, which is why you can't use it in our cars, it'll kill the O2 sensor.

Red Devil is right, the high octane racing fuels contain lead, will will foul your O2 sensor and cause your catalytic converter to fail.
You can buy unleaded racing fuel in 100 or 103 octane, but at $5 a gallon, you only need it if you're running a power adder, or are getting knock retard full time at the track.

I tried this stuff made by NOS Systems...it was just octane booster(off road formula) from autozone. For 10 bucks, i noticed little, if any perforamce/fuel economy gain. This stuff is supposed to boost your octane level 4 to 6 points. I dont think its worth it. Says its safe for fuel injecteed cars and catalytic converters, but i think 10 bucks could buy me a good night at "Go-Go Rama" instead, and at least from there, i would walk away with a smile

There is a company that makes an additive for normal fuel. It comes in like 10 different odors. Jegs has it listed on their web site.

When they say 4 to 6 points that means 92.4 to 92.6 not 96 to 98. Octane boost is crap, don't buy it. Get some of the 100 that some 76's sell.

There is an article at.......(no flame here) www.turboford.org on ways to increase octane using different chemicals. MTBE is what the gas companies use to raise octane. This stuff is so hazardous, 1 tsp. on your skin will kill you with no question. There are other ways, even using rubbing alcohol. I have never tried using any of this. I don't know what negative affects it will have on the O2 sensor, and converter. Just something to look at.

Tolulene works very well and is cheap at an automotive paint store. Xylene works also.
Cat safe/o2 safe.
$3-$5 a gallon.

Is there a formula for how much tolulene or xylene it takes to raise the fuel to a certian octane?
Tolulene
With a base of 92 octane:
10% - 94.2
20% - 96.4
30% - 98.6
Xylene:
10% - 94.5
20% - 97
30% - 99.5
MTBE:
10% - 94.6
20% - 97.2
30% - 99.8
Source: www.gnttype.org, but I couldn't get the link to work.

Just an FYI about mtbe and its health effects. Fist off it wont kill you, well not necessarily. Ever get gasoline on your skin? Well you get the picture. But if it was that hazardous the Government wouldnt allow it in fuel at all. I wouldnt recomend drinking it however. Hear read this for more info. http://www.bandj.com/MainWindowPages...tEthMSDS.htm#1 The government is banning it though. In fact MTBE is only used in this country and it along with other additives in gasoline are banned in basically every other country in the world. Oh and dont inhale too much gasoline, about a teaspoon in your lungs WILL kill you

Hey Scooter, do you watch Red Green? I didn't think that show was on in the US. You should be quoting Red Green for the quote in your sig.
