RPM

I was wondering with a 305 and the cam in the signiture, edelbrock TES headers, self tuned chip and a mild polished intake base, what RPM could i be spinning, and what should i do to get that RPM up to 6000RPM, thanks.

Ben,

What valves and valve springs are you using? RPM is limited more by the inertial mass of the valve train and the spring's ability to control valve position, and less by the cam ramp or acceleration rates.

A lot of engines with lower lifts than that turn a lot higher RPMs (oval track cars), but they have the correct springs and a fuel system that can deliver at those rates.

I don't know exactly what valves and springs i have, but i know that the valves are one step bigger than the 187 casting heads, and the springs are matched to the cam.

one things staands out in my mind that seems to always allow higher rpms is a roller lifter, crane makes a great setup for it, saaw one with matched springs turn 7000 on a 355

I already have roller lifters, remember all post 87 GM's had roller lifters.
