Thinking about a Superram....I've got questions

I've got a 355 TPI, Accel intake, ASM Runners, Ported Plenum, Edelbrock 52MM TB, and an AFPR. My truck (where the engine sits) is AWD and I have no traction problems, so low end torque gives me no problems. If I want to get out of the 14s, what is the best upgrade for my engine?

Should I replace the stock heads?

Should I replace the stock cam?

What would a Superram do for me...assuming I kept the 22# injectors, 52mm TB, stock cam, and heads?

Just looking for suggestions at this point. Thanks!

converter will help or spend cash and get heads to help it breathe.

If your gonna get the superram say goodbye to your AS&M runners. The superram must include accels small runners. Since decreasing the size of the runners will give u a loss of torque but a gain in HP. MY opinion not worth it. Stay with your stock style TPI set up.

Do this: a converter matched to the cam, a good street cam, and some heads. Why not do it all at once? Since this is a street truck (right?) and you have alot of $$$ in the intake, keep the setup you have. The super-ram is only good if you like beating the motor up alot, and if you push it to 5500+ RPM. Stock TPI can do the same if modified properly, but not to the same extent (HP). You gotta decide where the engine spends most of it's time. If you do get the SR, can I buy your intake for my '89 ( )? My '86 is getting a SR but I have yet to use it (waiting of the Vortec TPI base, damnit!)

Now that I think of it, I gotta ask...I have seen this advertised but want to confirm it...does anybody notice a reduction in low-end torque with the SR? I am directing this to people who did nothing but swapped intakes, no heads or cam. I'm not the only one who wants to know.

Yes there will be a reduction in torqe cause of the short runners that are required with the superram. LIke i said stick with the stock TPI unit. People spend well over $700.00 on the superram for nothing. NOt worth it unless your going with Really big cubic inches

Going from a stock TPI to a SR with no other changes to my combo, I saw no real loss in low end torque. However, the gain in horsepower at the top was amazing. My car used to fall on it's face at 4300 rpm. Now it screams to close 6000 rpm. Huge improvement.

Sorry, haven't run my car yet, Now I'm dealing with rearend problems. Making a lot more noise than I'd like (grinding). Since I don't have $2000+ to spend on a real rearend, I'm not sure what to do at this point. I guess I'll just put in new bearings, a gear, a TA girdle, and weld the axle tubes. Hope that will hold it until I get out of school and can afford a real rearend. I hope to have some times this summer since I'll be an hour from Indianapolis Raceway Park. I think launching the car will be the hard part.

The SuperRam is a midrange manifold. Hot Rod magazine did a comparative EFI test some years back and included OE TPI, big runner TPI, the SuperRam, and the miniram. The long runner TPI's had better low end and the miniram owned the 5500+ rpm range, but the 3500 - 5500 rpm belonged to the SR. I don't have the hard numbers handy but I can find them if you'd like.

I'd give AFR 190's consideration along with a moderate hydraulic roller cam.

The SR is not soft at low rpm's, though. Mine will break both rear tires loose in second from a 1500 rpm roll without touching the clutch. There's more torque than with the Dart/Performer RPM/Holley/222* flat tappet cam combination that it replaced.
