Car: 1997 Jeep Wrangler
Engine: 4.0L
Transmission: 5 speed
Axle/Gears: 8.8 rear, 4.56 gears, 4:1 transfer
It costs $199, kindof expensive for what it is. I have one though, very nice quality too.

i am sure i would get a nice increase with a cold air kit, i already have a full cat back exahaust and high flow converter so they should mate well. I am also getting SLP's air foil.

Do a search on this subject and find my other posts for details but I basically had the same thing as the SLP system on my 85 TA. I liked it and had a slight SOTP increase but not a whole lot. Maybe 5-8 HP. It did rev a hell of a lot quicker and smoother with it vs. that stock box system (junk).

My $.02 (I've had a SLP cold air kit for 11 years):

- Duct from throttle body to MAF too long for '85-'87 radiator shroud. Causes MAF to not fit in bracket properly (MAF tilts slightly to back of engine - not parallel to radiator).

- Fitting to cold air box will break after time. Most parts are plastic-welded together.

- Flange on cold air box to fenderwell may crack (mine did).

- Aluminum "air vanes" pop-riveted in to duct may cause problems. I had a tear in one duct caused by one of the rivets (probably through flexing).

I think a person could come up with something better through junkyard parts or mandrel-bent exhaust pipe. Check out what some of the others have done on this board.

I hear you about wanting something "off-the-shelf," tho. As long as you know what the SLP deficiencies are, maybe you can prepare for and, ultimately, prevent some of the problems I had.

thanx for the info greg, sounds like u didnt have very good success with your cold air set up, i just wnat something that will last, thats simple and doesnt require alot of (or none at all) fabricateing to be used, ill keep looking and see what i can come up with, i bet the cold air kits give a huge SOTP difference, u can feel how the car is way faster when its cold as opposed to when its hot

ONEFINE8T9,

Personally, I like what jobryan26 did. Check it out under reader's rides. If you really want to get fancy, substitute the PVC pipe with mandrel bent exhaust pipe and get them chromed! Add another 45 deg. bend at the end and poke that K&N filter into the fenderwell opening.

p.s. I am happy with the SLP kit overall, but lets face it - nothing lasts like O.E.M. stuff. Unfortunately, the O.E.M. air intake wasn't very good.

p.s.s Arizona Speed and Marine (ASM) used to sell a kit for our cars made with chrome pipe - why don't you see if they have any left?
