1985 TPI vette 165 ECM swap....

Ok, a friend of mine has a 1985 TPI 350/auto Corvette. The motor was rebuilt with the addition of a mild cam and 24 lb. injectors. So, I told him that I would tune it for him so it wouldn't run so rich (due to the bigger injectors, etc..) and I would use the 1989 vette .bin as a base that way it would start easier because he eliminated the cold start inejctor. I then realized that the stock 1226870 ECM does not have the same port as a 165 and newer ECM for me to plug a memcal adapter into. So, I grabbed a working 165 ECM and plugged it in. I used a 1989 F-body TPI 350/auto memcal/PROM and plugged that into the memcal adapter with the PROM that I programmed, then plugged that into the 165 ECM, then plugged that into the harness. I reconnected the battery and started it. It ran like crap with the check engine light on and it was in limp home mode.

My questions are:

Will using a F-body memcal even work?
If not, will using a 1989 vette memcal fix the problem?
Is there anything else I will have to change or swap so we can use the 165 ecm and '89 programming?

The .bin file I used was a slightly modified version of ARAP. Which has worked well for me in the past on an F-body.

Any thoughts?

Re: 1985 TPI vette 165 ECM swap....

Thank you for the info!

Still a couple of questions though...

Will the F-body memcal for a 1989 TPI 350 F-body work correctly hooked up to a Corvette or will I need to use a vette memcal?

If I need to use a vette memcal, what year memcal do I use?

Is there anything different I need to do to the vette that's different from the F-body 165 ecm conversion?
