Knock sensor question

In investigating my Code 43, I think I have narrowed it down to the knock sensor, so I just ordered one today. I don't have my service manual with me (left it back in Michigan when I moved), so what I'm wondering is:

Is there any special magic to installing one? Is it like a temperature sensor where all the coolant will drain out if I pull it out?

I'm guessing that because I have a bad knock sensor, it is causing the ECM to alter the timing in such a way that it is causing my hesitation, heat problem, sluggishness and occasional backfire. I'm hoping that it at LEAST shuts the damn check engine light off.

Matt

I just replaced my knock sensor on Sunday. It definitely fixed my hesitation problem and brought back a lot of lost power. Yes, the installation is straightforward, just like a temp sensor. It does thread into the water jacket in the block so coolant will drain out.
