question on TPI Y-plenums

Why do some air intake Y-plenums have a threaded insert for a sensor? My 85 TPI doesn't have the threaded insert for a sensor but another I picked up at the junkyard did. I suppose it could be for an air intake temp sensor or something. Can someone shed some light into the application of this type.

Its for the air intake temp sensor. Its probably the same deal as the Firebirds, the V6 cars (that I have seen) had them in a place other than the intake manifold.

supposed to be a good mod on v8 tpi cars to get the sensor to measure cooler air before it has the time to absorb the heat in the plenum
