Removing MAS screens
Someone should write a tech article about this for as much as it comes up. There are going to be people who tell you it will make your car stumble and hesitate, but I have had mine removed for a year and have had no problems. Als, some people say that the screens help straiten the air, this simply isn't true, if anything, they make it more turbulant.

Yes. The tables that calibrate the MAF output in counts to measured airflow in g/s will be thrown off if you remove the screens. The effect is that the MAF won't be accurately reporting airflow which will skew your BLMs in closed loop away from 128 and affect your air/fuel ratio at WOT. I'm in the process of tweaking the MAF scalars via a custom PROM and the car is running much better at part throttle since my BLMs used to always read 108 in closed loop.
I'm not saying you'll have a problem but wanted you to be aware before you mod.

Well this has been the topic of great debate and I see both sides of this mod, but I can't resist throwing in my two cents. First of all GM spend a zillion dollars doing research and in this day and age of saving a few bucks if it were a good idea to leave em' out, they would have.
Take out the aerator in your faucet and see what happens. Do you get more flow.....yes. Is it more turbulent and irregular.....yes.
The MAF will flow more air than the stock intake and 48mm TB can handle so it's a wasted, potentially dangerous effort to remove the screens.
They are also there by design to quelch a backfire and protect the filament wire.
The other side: If I were drag racing only I would probably remove them along with a modified intake and exhaust.
