engine question

ok, i have always been told that the third gen camaro had the option of a 5.7 liter L98, but the other day i was looking a a copy of CHP and it said the L98 was never offered in the camaro, only a L89 which was the same thing only it came with cast iron heads instead of aluminum. which is right?? thanks

The LB9 is the 305 TPI engine. The 350 TPI that came in Thirdgens is an L98 with iron heads as the magazine said. However, sometimes the engine code for a Thirdgen is called B2L, but this was usually a package that included the L98 I believe.

l98 is aan option code or rpo code(regular production order)the l98 is an rpo code but is different in thaat all l98's had 4 bolt mains and aluminum heads so when you ordered a camaro or firebird inthe 85-92 era the option for the engine only lists codes lb9w/auto or manual tranny and in 1987 the b2lw/ auto tranny only so l98's never came in a 3rd gen just a 350 modeled after the l98
