need some suggestions on a TPI 350

Ok I have a 96 vortec 350 with tpi on it. I want to put on slp runners and a tpis base. hooker super comps and mufflex Y pipe. (eht doesnt anyone make a x pipe?) I was wondering what would be a good cam for this motor? It will be driven mainly on weekends. I want it to be driveable and realibe.

if you have vortec heads on that vortec motor, and your using TPI, then i assume you have the edelbrock vortec TPI base. Else you dont have a vortec motor.

vortec base aint bad, it just needs port work to get some good gains. SLP runners are good runners but also need some port work to get the most out of them.

semi siamesed SLP setup with some port work on the base should get you a rev range to 5200-5400rpms. you'll want a cam that will make peak near that. Two off the shelf choices from comp are the 502 and 503 grinds. The 502 is a 218/224 cam with .49x/.502 lift i believe it is. the 503 is better suited for HSR or other shorter runner intake but could work. its 224/230 with .503/.510 lift.

if you use a cam like that on vortec heads you'll need to have the heads machined to accept higher lift OR just get beehive 918 springs with retainers for 200 bucks and beable to support near .550 lift or so. thats your best bet. great springs and costs the same as a cheap spring/machine work setup, so might as well go with the good springs

should be a hot street combo but still be very driveable. I'd lean to a cam like the 218/224 with that setup.

Re: need some suggestions on a TPI 350

the port work isnt all that hard to do... atleast siamese the slp runners. do a search for siamesing SLP runners, and get a dremel tool and go at it. its worth the gain. Also port match the runners to the base opening to make sure there is no protruding edges to block airflow.

As far as tuning goes, a mail order chip may work for that combo. i dont think it will need much work to tune it.
