knock sensor issue with headers
I just put in my new headers. They are Doug's headers full length 1 3/4 primaries. Okay, now my problem is my knock sensor is bangin against the headers. If i take out the knock sensor and replace it with a plug, the headers will fit. I really don't want to do this to the car because of the timing ordeal. I just want to know if there are any ways of beating this problem. Maybe if I take out the knock sensor then move the headers into place, maybe it will be able to get put back in? I know someone has had to have had this problem.
One last note. If i get the headers in and the knock sensor, will I have any interference from the headers? No right. I just saw someone saying that in another thread i searched.

Re: knock sensor issue with headers
Are you sure it's the knock sensor and not the aux fan switch?
I've never heard of the header interfering with sensors. However, make sure the header tubes are not close to the sensor or it will melt the wire (and maybe some of the sensor)!
Hope this helps!

knock sensor issue with headers
Just to be 100% clear the Knock Sensor is located just above the oil pan usually on most 3rd gens on the right side. Unless you are running block hugger headers, I don't think there is any way the headers could be hitting the knock sensor. Especially on the right side because that is where your starter is also. You can do like I did because of a tight fit. I moved my knock sensor to the bottom left side of the block and just extended the wire to it.. If you mean the sensors on the Heads, Those are coolant temp sensors or fan switch. There The headers should be cut out from the factory to accomodate for them.

Re: knock sensor issue with headers
no it is the knock sensor. It is all the way near the bottom by the pan. It is weird that the headers are pushing on it, but they are full length headers. I guess that is the reason. It is on the passenger side, I bought a new one also for the driver side to put it in. The header is pushing on it and if I dont move it it will rub and melt it. SO I am just trying to find a good spot on the driver side. I saw one spot but I didnt know if it was the same size thread. I guess I will find out tonight.

Re: knock sensor issue with headers
btw does anyone have a pic of the other side bolt I would relocate the sensor to?

Re: knock sensor issue with headers
I don't have a picture but it isn't a side bolt. I doesn't look like a bolt. It usually has to be removed by an allen wrench. It is a antifreeze drain plug located almost directly across on the right side of the engine from where your current one is located. If you take the plug out and you are laying under it. You will surely get wet.. I will try to get a picture tonight for you.

Re: knock sensor issue with headers
I hope I see the right one. lol if not Im gonna be messin round a lot more. Oh and how should I route the wire? Should I take the sensor wire under the TB area then around. Also should any wires that have the plastic covering be touching the headers? I find it impossible if that is the case..

Re: knock sensor issue with headers
The actual size of the knock sensor is about the size of a silver dollar. If you are referring to the plug on the drivers side. You really can't miss it. It is basically the only one there. I covered mine with wire cover from Auto-Zone. I is like an asbestos material that you use to help protect from the heat. I re-routed my wire behind the engine and used zip wires to ensure it stayed away from the headers.

i can get it off tomorrow. This is practically all I am waiting for to get this puppy started.

Re: knock sensor issue with headers
We (Hooker 2210 Owners) have a similiar problem. We usaully bring the knock sensor from thE passenger side over to the driver side because of header / sensor interference. VERY easy thing to do. The hardest part is soldering in extra wire length so the sensor pigtail can reach the new location.

Re: knock sensor issue with headers
You can move it over to the drivers side just fine without cutting any wires, just untangle it back and you will have more than enough wire
Had to do this with with my hookers and my hedmans

Re: knock sensor issue with headers
Yup with the Hooker 2210's.. Even with the mini starter being as small as it is, I couldn't believe it would be too tight for the knock sensor also. Made alot more sense just to move it.
Re: knock sensor issue with headers
Another way I've seen people relocate it is to drill a hole in the fuel pump block off plate and tap it to the proper thread size. Doing this would keep it on the passenger side, and get it out of the way of the headers. I don't think you'd even have to lengthen the wire since it comes down from the top front of the motor IIRC. Even if you did have to lengthen it a bit, it's only one wire. Piece of cake.
