Code 32, V6 Only?

I had a cascade crew buddy plug in his scanner and while doing the Vulcan mind thingy a code 32 was detected. His Hayes repair manual id's this as an EGR problem for the V6, but being a 305 jockey I am stumped and mystified. Any insight or enlightenment would be welcomed.

Don,

The '32' is a fairly universal (among GM PCMs) DTC. Maybe this would help:

GM ECM Error Codes.pdf

You'll need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view/print the file (see below).

Thanks Vader, your legendary!

The fact that an accomplished F Body author lists thirdgen.org as the first link for 3rd Generation Firebirds / Trans Ams proves that this board rules !

Now the big question, is it a MAP circuit issue or an EGR curcuit fault, only time will tell

85,

Is your TA a TPI or carbed engine? Apparently the TPI/EFI only uses the '32' to identify an EGR problem. The carbed engine can use a '32' or '53' for an EGR diagnostic fault.

One unusual thing I encountered with a MAP error was a faulty PCV valve. The valve wasn't really faulty, but apparently Fram either packaged the wrong PCV, or the quality control was so bad that the flow rate of the PCV was completely wrong for the engine. A new AC/Delco PCV valve solved the problem, and the brand new Fram PCV valve was summarily "dismissed" in a nearby bench vise.

You should also check other less common vacuum leaks, like the brake booster (pinch the line) and EGR valve itself (block-off plate).

There are several ways to help diagnose the EGR problem, but the two fuel systems are different enough to have different procedures.
