crappy running swap
I feel like a loser for having to post this
86 Iroc donor. Intake, sensors, harness & emissions swapped into a V8 86 Monte Carlo.
I adapted the harnesses so all emissions and functions are working; I cut as little wiring as possible (only a couple on the column, and a couple going to the old SES light had to be cut)
It started fine and idled and all. I let it get up to temp and idle. No codes. Since the A/C isn't charged yet, the fan is constant on; using a 180 deg. stat...
Naturally when I went to drive it home, I got some problems
First, it will die sometimes if you are driving and push in the clutch pedal and hold it. I am running hydraulic 84-92 pedals, master, & bellhousing w/ an 84 T/A tranny.
Second, I'm getting 32, 33, and 36. I am intimately familiar with the computerized Q-jets on 80's GM cars, so I'm not ignorant to the general GM computer system, but this is my first car w/ EFI (although, have done tremendous reading, research and worked on a few before)
I have a pigtail unhooked near the back of the engine. It comes out at the same location that the distributor 4pin weatherpak comes out. The wires going to this pigtail are grey and black, I think.
I am not as stupid about this as it may seem. I'm just green, and would appreciate insight on this; I'm fairly sure I have one thing unplugged, but I can't see outside at night, and am working and going to school and trying to get this thing ready to go on a 3000 mile trip. 1LE rotors & complementing brakes go on Tuesday
TIA

my car does they same thing - my problem is not enough vacuum because my prom is for a cam with more vacuum. If your setup is speed density the computer really hates other cams...

WOW, A REPLY!
The 86 Iroc donor donated a near new Bosch MAF, harness, & ECM / PROM, so I'm definitely not speed density.
The cam is an Energizer 272.
Never believe this .... I went to Auto Zone @ 2am to get more info on the trouble codes. I honest to God got back in the car, and it didn't turn on the SES any more. But.. the pigtail at the back was EGR (now plugged in) and the MAF codes must be "leftovers" from earlier yesterday.
Car now runs w/out codes. But... if you're cruising along and hit the clutch, it dies. Because of auto harness / PROM in a car w/ a T5? Maybe...
Ahem...

Yes, at the VERY least get a prom from 86-88 that was for a manual car. Now if your engine is a 350.. you won't find that "chip"
You may have/NEED to get into prom burning.

It's a bone stock long block except the cam mentioned above. the 86 Monte L69 was a 9.5:1 305 with 1.84 and 1.50 (I think) valves and 58cc chambers.
Does the 5 speed PROM keep the idle up when you are moving but have the clutch in?
