Injector question
I;ve searched but havent found a real concreate answer.
I am woundering :
I have a L98 350, stock save for 1.6 rockers and exhuast. I can get a set of Lt1 97 Trans am 22# (21.1 or something flow rate) injectors. 17121068 part #.
I want to know, if I put these injectors in (will they fit) and secondly, will I need any tuning on the car to make it run right, or will it run correctly with just putting them in.
Thanks

Re: Injector question
'97 LT1 injectors are 24lbs, not 22lbs. And it will make the car run richer, unless you get a custom chip burned for the larger injectors.

Re: Injector question
For such a small change your car will run fine without a reburn of the prom. The LT1 injectors should be a straight up swap. I know the LSx injectors are shorter than the the previous styles. My 305 TPI ran with 30 lb injectors from an LS1 (milled the fuel rails to allow the rail to hold the injector in place when bolted down) on the factory chip without setting a check engine light. Sure it ran a little rich, but the computer did a fair job of trimming down the injector pulse width (time the injector is opened to allow fuel to pass). So if a 305 can run a 30 lb, I am sure your 350 will be just fine.

Re: Injector question
Well...I needed a tune when I swapped my 19#'s out for 24# LT1's.
My can ran VERY rich...it had a hard time running.
I actually had to tow my car to the shop that did the tuning.

Re: Injector question
I had no problems running my 24's, but I did not do it on a stock motor. If your intake is taking in more air it will have no problem burning the extra fuel. If it is a stock motor you have no need at all to replace the injectors. The MAF cars are better to adjust themselves, too.

Re: Injector question
Does that part number I quoted represent a 22lb/hr injector like all the lists I see say?
Mine is MAF, and from what I know, other then 1.6 rockers, is stock. Claimed to have a small street cam in it, but I havent driven it yet to really know.

Re: Injector question
Stock for stock you should be able to run about a 10% larger injector without prom tuning.
And as JBP said, MAF is more accepting of changes without prom changes as opposed to SD.

Re: Injector question
It is odd then that my speed density car ran 30 lb injectors
(and a higher fuel pressure) on a stock motor. I know the 10% "rule", but that is more fore air flow than available fuel volume.

Re: Injector question
It'll run just not the way it should. I was able to get my SD to run on 36lb injectors with the constant set at 22lb. Just ran really rich. Too rich for the ECM to fully compensate.
