Which heads??

I have an 87 305 tpi. I was wondering what heads i could use that would bolt up to the stock tpi setup and that will bolt up to an aftermarket manifold in the future. I don't want to do any mods I just want to bolt them on and go. I also want to go to a 350 sooner or later (hopefully sooner), and I want heads that will meet the flow demands of the 350 with some porting when the time comes.

My honest advice to you: Save the money you'd spend on heads that will work on both engines until you're ready to build that 350, and buy a real set of heads. I'm not saying you can't get a good set of heads that will flow well on both engines, like the L98 Vette heads. What I'm saying is that you're limited to 1.94 intake valves on your small bore, and when you build the 350 you'll probably want 2.02's. There are enough variables in engine assembly to satisfy without worrying about component mismatch due to "trying to make it work." That said, I practice what I preach. I have a 305 now, and am building an AFR or Trick Flow headed 350 this winter.

Oh, and to answer your original ?, any head designed for 87-up centerbolt motors will have the two center intake bolts at 72*, and will work on your engine, provided it has 1.94/1.60 valves. Anything larger won't clear the bore.

Keep in mind too that out 305's have 58cc chambers, while 350's have 64cc. Its hard to get a head that will work with both engines, unless you get special pistons installed on the 350 when you build it.
